Hays County COVID-19 Update

The Hays County Health Department adjusted the county’s active COVID-19 case counts following an internal review at the department found active case counts that were incorrect, Hays Epidemiologist Eric Schneider says.

Schneider says the local health department’s data review showed San Marcos has 29 active cases in the past 21 days, but the county received reports of about 117 new COVID-19 cases in October. As a result of the county’s findings, the total active case count in San Marcos increased from 29 to 124, and total active cases in Kyle decreased from 276 to 122 on Oct. 28.

The county also reports six new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 69 recoveries Oct. 28, bringing the total number of cases in the county to 6,103, active cases to 397 and recoveries to 5,620. Total active cases in the last 21 days is 387.

There have been a total of 86 fatalities in the county. The local health department recently added 22 new fatalities to the dashboard after the Texas Department of State Health Services implemented a new system for reporting COVID-19-related fatalities in the state.

Dripping Springs and Buda have 22 and 95 active cases, respectively.

According to Schneider, the total number of received negative tests in the county is now 35,069. The total number of hospitalizations is 383 and total current hospitalizations is 10.
