Texas State scored 4 runs in the 7th inning to knock off in-state rival UT-Arlington, winning game one of the 3-game series 5-2. The win officially puts the Bobcats one game behind Troy for a possible second place finish in the Sun Belt Conference.
In the 7th inning, Texas State trailed the Mavericks 2-1. Hailey McKay tied the game with a solo home run to level the score at 2-2. With the bases loaded, pinch hitter Cassie Valdez came in the clutch with a 3-run double to put the Bobcats up 5-2 and secure the victory.
Megan King started for Texas State, going 4 innings with 6 hits and 2 runs earned while Dalilah Barrera was awarded the win, going 3 innings with 2 hits, zero earned runs and one strikeout.
Texas State continues the series at 5 p.m. Friday at Allen Saxe Field in Arlington.
